You know, I used to work with this guy who was probably one of the smartest guys I've ever known.... he was one of the VP's at the company I was working for at the time. One day I was talking with him and it came up he didn't have a cell phone. Now, this was back in the day when not every 10 year old had a cell phone. However, every business man ... and certainly one of his caliber ... did. I said "Bob... why don't you have a cell phone!?" He replied "I don't want to be that available."

I pondered for a moment. And then I saw the GENIUS of this statment. While everyone else in the company was running around like chickens with their heads cut off, experiencing sleepless nights because of phone calls and txt msgs and what not... he was there, handling everything the way it was meant to be handled.... 9-5pm. Don't get me wrong, this guy did his job and he did it well. But he refused to let work monopolize his life. Who knows... maybe now he has crossed to the dark side. I have no idea, I haven't seen him in years.

But, I have to wonder... with all these twitters and mobile options for facebook and blah blah blah... are we allowing our social lives to monopolize our lives? Do we REALLY care when our friends go to Meijer to pick up milk??? And I have to wonder how this all affects the prevalence of people to actually CARE what other people think (to a paralyzing extent that is). It boggles my mind to think of what my daughter will grow up knowing as "normal" behavior.

I think I will continue in the land of non-tweeting. I like it here... the sky is still blue, the grass is green, and if you listen closely you can still hear the whisper of the wind. I will not go quietly into the night. ;-)

And I am glad that you tweet. TweetDeck is another good Twitter application to use for the Mac. It organizes the tweets into @replies, direct messages and all tweets making it pretty easy to use. Happy Tweeting!
